Bernice Sims’ art reflects her life. The eldest of ten children, Bernice grew up in rural Alabama. She married at sixteen and had six children of her own. At the age of 52, she returned to school to earn her high school diploma. Bernice was inspired to begin painting after several school trips to art museums. She is known as a memory painter, depicting the events and activities of her life.
