For fourteen years Scott Simmons ran an electron microscopy laboratory at the University of Wisconsin. Becoming fascinated by glass he began taking courses at the University’s glass art program and eventually resigned from the lab to make glass full-time. His years as a microscopist left him with an uncanny ability to see the world in layers. This contributes to his ability to reduce glass cane to almost nothingness and then blow it out into an entire new universe.
